Back for a quick favor

I'm back from my holiday and have quite a few things to show you but before I get around to those, I have a quick favor to ask you.
We did an art contest thing for fashion school before summer break started, and my piece is among the finalists!
Now there's online voting (via Facebook, Pinterest or comments) and even though those among my classmates with the most facebook friends will probably win, maybe you could give mine a few votes :)

The theme was "Oktoberfest" and for mine I used tickets to cover the deer's head and all around the head there's a little rollercoaster with Playmobil children :)
Click here for my deer's page and do give my classmates' pieces a look, too, there are some really pretty ones!

I'm a genius!

Or at least that's how I felt when I thought of this little trick on my own.
Did you know you can sew elastic together to make a wider strip? I figure there is like a thousand tutorials on this out there, but I thought of it myself and at like 2 a.m. on top of that!
So, if you ever need wider elastic than you have on hand and the shops aren't open or if you just want to use up leftovers, try this!

Just put the two strips of elastic next to each other and sew them together with a zigzag stitch. Super easy and super quick. It's not quite as stable as a regular wider elastic would be, but it is definitely enough for most waistbands and other simple projects!

Summer Time!

Besides my technical problems I have been quiet on here lately. Wanna know why? I'm enjoying my free time! :)
My internship's done, so my summer holidays have officially started. It's awesome.
I've been sewing quite a lot actually, but I don't have anyone to take pictures and I'm too lazy to use my self-timer.
Instead I have something else to show you!
I have a new sewing corner.
You can't even begin to imagine how happy I am about this. For ages, I have been sewing on a tiny rolling computer table. My machines were back to back and I could never have both plugged in. It was quite a hassle, especially with project with lots of fabric (*cough* Rococo *cough*) because I had no room to put the fabric down.
This was it (the picture doesn't do the tininess justice though):

Now when I recently upgraded from a 1m wide wardrobe to a 2m wide one (also quite the luxury) the piano in my room had to be relocated anyway, leaving some space for a proper sewing table.

Besides the chaos underneath it (which I'm asking you kindly to ignore), isn't it pretty? So much room! My machines right next to each other for easy going back and forth! :)

In a week I am off to Crete and then afterwards to Edinburgh and the Fringe Festival once again, and I have a friend with me on both trips, so I'm planning to have her take pictures of me in the new clothes ;)
Have a preview before I go:

Sorted!

The patterns and instructions should be available again and my background is back! Yay! :)
